As a Candle

I painted this the other day for an assignment/a present for my roommate.

I've become obsessed with the idea of consecration while I've been at school. Consecration is like holiness. To me, consecration means being pure in a dirty atmosphere--when everything around is falling apart and into sin.

There are many Biblical inspirations for this, but the first is probably Philippians 2:15, "...That you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe..."

Candle. Star. Meh, both glow.

I'm having fun with texture lately! The gunk on the top corner and the "wax" on the candle is made with hot glue and modeling paste. A neat experiment.

Done in oil (one of my best art purchases. Ever.)
